Michigan football didn’t land a commitment in the month of May but here are three things we learned heading into a pivotal month for the Wolverines.

For the second straight month, Michigan football didn’t land a verbal commitment. It didn’t happen in April and the drought has extended to May.

The Wolverines still sit at six commitments in the 2023 recruiting class. However, that doesn’t mean that Michigan football didn’t make progress last month on the trail. It did.

Michigan has started to build some momentum as a number of key official visits have been set. June is going to be huge for the Wolverines but before we look too far ahead, let’s look at three things we learned about Michigan football recruiting in May.

Michigan football is still in it for Dante Moore

It was concerning to see teams like Notre Dame, Oregon, and LSU gain momentum in the recruitment of five-star quarterback Dante Moore, who is from Detroit.

However, the biggest development in the month of May was the fact that Michigan got Moore back on campus for an unofficial visit.

Moore spent time with Matt Weiss and Sherrone Moore, plus he spent important time with Will Johnson and Donovan Edwards. Jim Harbaugh needs to get more involved and I believe he will.

The key is now getting Moore back to campus. He’s taking a visit to Texas A&M and could take another depending on how that goes.

Notre Dame seems to be falling back but is still heavily in the mix. Oregon is too but is also pushing for other quarterbacks, so Michigan, Notre Dame, and A&M feel like the top three right now, however, it could change in an instant.

Regardless, the Wolverines are still in the mix and if Dante isn’t deciding until later in the summer or even into the fall, that’s a good thing for Michigan football. It just has to keep running the race and getting Harbaugh more involved.

Eventually, if this is extended, the Wolverines could still win out, just as they did with Johnson and Edwards despite major threats.
