As the recruiting calendar shifts into summer visits and camps, we take a look at what Michigan Football’s 2023 recruiting class could look like.

Quarterback

Always the most interesting position to follow given its importance on the field, the Wolverines currently do not have a quarterback committed in the 2023 class. They have gone “all-in” on landing five-star quarterback Dante Moore, out of Detroit Martin Luther King, but currently find themselves trailing the Fighting Irish in this race.

And what makes this spot even harder to predict is the fact that Michigan football has only offered two other quarterbacks in this class: five-star Malachi Nelson, who is currently committed to USC, and three-star William Watson III, who is committed to Nebraska. Should Michigan strike out on landing Moore, they will likely be forced to re-evaluate a diminishing board, as quarterback recruits tend to commit to programs earlier than other positions, and are traditionally, less likely to flip, though Michigan could certainly put in some work to flip one.

Two names that the Wolverines could certainly turn to if Moore heads elsewhere are an in-state three-star committed to Cincinnati in Brady Drogosh, and four-star quarterback Avery Johnson (KS). Johnson is currently uncommitted but ranked as the 11th best quarterback in the class.

Prediction: Michigan misses out on Dante Moore, and instead lands QB Avery Johnson.
