2. They beat the top four seeds for the first time in tourney history
According to the Big Ten Network, this is the first time ever that a club has beaten the overall one-four seeds in the tournament’s 40-year history. They jumped on Illinois late Thursday night and never retreated from then on. That was the only meeting between the two foes this season. Moving on to Friday they stomped Maryland after getting swept by the regular-season champs in College Park just two weeks prior and people were starting to believe something special could be on the horizon.
Saturday brought Iowa to the table and Michigan lost its lone affair in the tournament. It set up the elimination game on Sunday afternoon which Michigan baseball repaid the Hawkeyes with a 12-run trouncing.
It was on to the finale to take out Rutgers for the third time in a week’s time by winning in the second matchup of the day.
