Michigan baseball’s run in the Big Ten tournament will continue after a 13-1 stomping of Iowa in the semifinals.

Iowa bested Michigan on Saturday night 7-3 forcing the Wolverines into a second game since U-M entered the semifinal round undefeated.

Michigan notched 10 hits against Iowa last night but converted that into just three runs. Sunday’s game was the complete opposite as the Wolverines turned eight hits into 13 runs.

Michigan grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and led 4-1 when Willie Weiss came on in relief. After making a move to his glove, Weiss was ejected for using a foreign substance, forcing Eric Bakich to turn to Cameron Weston who got out of a jam in the fifth and held Iowa scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings to clinch the win early due to the run rule.

In need of some insurance runs, the offense exploded in the top of the seventh. Tito Flores scored two with a double. Ted Burton then came up with a bases loaded double that pushed the lead to 9-1.

Clark Elliott then delivered a three-run triple and that was enough to get the fat lady singing as Michigan is back in the Big Ten title game for the first time since 2019 when the Wolverines advanced all the day the national championship game.

Rutgers will be the opponent and after beating Indiana to improve to 3-0 in the tournament, the Scarlet Knights got to rest instead of playing this afternoon.

Michigan baseball took two of three from Rutgers last weekend to clinch a spot in the tournament and now the Scarlet Knights are the last team standing in the way of a Big Ten championship.

The first pitch will go out at 5:10 CST.
