Trip to Europe will be beneficial for Michigan Basketball
Michigan basketball announced a trip to Europe prior to the 2022 season and here’s why it will be beneficial to the Wolverines.
Michigan fans are kind of familiar with their teams taking trips to Europe and other places after Jim Harbaugh made it a habit with Michigan football during the early years of his tenure.
Now, Juwan Howard and the Michigan basketball team will be taking part in a trip to Europe too, one that’s similar to a couple of trips the Wolverines took under John Beilein.
The Wolverines went to Spain ahead of the 2018-19 season, in addition to taking trips to Italy in 2014 and Belgium in 2010 according to 247 sports.
The trip will help Michigan basketball in 2022-23
Michigan basketball looks like it will have a really young team heading into next season with just one senior on the roster and a number of key guys needing to take steps forward in their play. Four freshmen will also be joining the team so more time to bond and practice together will be critical.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate. They have until June 1 to withdraw their names from the draft but if they stay in the draft, Michigan will have to replace two starters.
Michigan will head to Paris and Athens. The Wolverines won’t just get to see the sights though, they will play in some exhibitions and more importantly, they will get 10 extra practices, also according to 247 sports:
"“The NCAA allows programs to take one foreign trip every four years. In addition to the cultural experience and exhibitions, these trips allow programs to hold up to 10 additional practices during the summer.”"
Those practices could be valuable for guys like Kobe Bufkin, Isaiah Barnes, Will Tschetter, Jett Howard, Tarris Reed, Dug McDaniel, and all the other young players the Wolverines need to contribute next season, especially if Houstan and Diabate don’t return.
