Wolverine roundup: Michigan softball’s Alex Storako to transfer, plus a schedule change for Big Ten baseball
Just days after the season ended, All-American Alex Storako has decided to transfer away from Michigan softball, plus a schedule change for U-M baseball.
The Michigan softball season came to a disappointing end on Sunday as the Wolverines were knocked out of the regional round by UCF.
It was the fifth consecutive season that Michigan softball was eliminated in the regional round and now, the Wolverines have gotten some more bad news as No. 1 starting pitcher Alex Storako has decided to enter the transfer portal along with catcher Hannah Carson according to Extra Inning Softball.
Storako was an All-American in 2021 and the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year before posting 25 wins this season for the Wolverines, including two in the NCAA tournament. She also reached 300 strikeouts this season in her second tournament win over South Dakota State.
Carson was a three-year starter for the Wolverines at catcher and she hit over .300 this season with five home runs. Both players will enter the portal as graduate transfers.
Michigan baseball won’t open the Big Ten tourney until Thursday
Fans of the Michigan baseball team will have to find something else to do on Wednesday night because the Wolverines won’t be playing in the Big Ten Tournament until Thursday.
Weather forced the conference to push some games back and here’s a look at the new schedule.
That means the Wolverines won’t play until Thursday at 1 p.m. central time. Coming in as the No. 5 seed, Michigan baseball will need to win the Big Ten tournament title to advance to the NCAA tournament once again.
Michigan made it in 2019 and 2021. There was no NCAA tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19.
