Michigan Basketball: 5 Wolverines who need to step up in 2022-23
Will Tschetter
Of all the signees in the 2021 recruiting class, Will Tschetter is among the most interesting. The 6-foot-8 power forward out of Minnestoa scored over 2,400 points in his high school career and he can really shoot the ball.
Last season, he didn’t see any time on the floor and was most well-known for his sideline celebrations. However, there’s been positive chatter about Tschetter and if Diabate and Houstan both leave, there will be a golden opportunity for him to earn some playing time next season.
With Dickinson in the middle, one thing Michigan can’t have enough of is shooters, especially at the four and Tschetter is the ideal stretch four.
The issue again is defense. He’s probably a little short to defend Big Ten centers but he will struggle with four-guys too. His offense is really the key for him because it doesn’t feel like he will ever be a great defender.
But if Tschetter can be a consistent knockdown shooter, he can find some minutes next season, because shooters are always valuable and Michigan needs them. The Wolverines also need the former 144th-ranked recruit to turn into a reliable producer on a multi-year basis.
That’s what they recruited him for after all.
