The Michigan softball team closed out the regular season with a dramatic win over Wisconsin on Sunday plus the baseball team dropped a second consecutive series.

It’s time for postseason softball, which means that it’s time for the Wolverines to get to work.

On Sunday, Michigan softball closed out the regular season with a three-game sweep of Wisconsin that included a 9-0 scoring run late in the game to rally from a 9-4 deficit to beat the Badgers (13-9) and finish with a record of 34-15 and 14-8 in the Big Ten.

Michigan softball will head into the Big Ten tournament as the No. 4 seed and the Wolverines will get a bye to Thursday when they will play at 7 PM EST.

Ranked No. 23 in the nation, the Wolverines will be in the NCAA Tournament once again under head coach Carol Hutchins who recently won her 1,700th game coaching for U-M.

Her team showed plenty of grit Sunday. The Wolverines scraped together two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to grab a one-run lead.

Then, in the seventh inning, Hannah Carson ripped a two-run home run, which was followed by a solo shot from Melina Livingston, who went 3-for-5 on the day with 5 RBI.

Lauren Derkowski was equally important for the Wolverines as she held the Badgers scoreless in just over three innings of work to get the win, including back-to-back strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth. Derkowski allowed zero runs on one hit and struck out six.

Michigan baseball drops series to Indiana

After some clutch hitting led to a come-from-behind win over Indiana on Friday, the Michigan baseball team dropped back-to-game games at home to drop the three-game set to the Hoosiers.

Michigan was able to put together some momentum after sweeps of Michigan State and Ohio State, however, consecutive series losses to Purdue and Indiana have damaged the Wolverines’ hopes of getting an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Wolverines grabbed a 4-2 lead in the third inning on Sunday as Joey Velazquez, who is also a Michigan football player hit a two-run bomb. U-M lead 8-7 going into the eighth inning but the Hoosiers scored three runs in the final two innings to steal the win.

Next. 5 teams Michigan football should schedule. dark

Michigan has three-game series against Rutgers and Maryland, as well as a game against Michigan State, plus two non-conference matchups but at 24-20 overall and 10-8 in the Big Ten, the Wolverines have a lot of work to do and will probably need to win the Big Ten tourney.
