Michigan baseball rallied past Indiana on Friday and the Michigan men’s and women’s tennis teams also advanced in the NCAA tournament.

The Wolverines had a tough go last weekend against Purdue, as the weather messed up things and the Boilermakers took two out of three games against Michigan baseball.

U-M allowed Purdue to score double-digit runs twice last weekend, but won the final game of the three-game series in West Lafayette, and then carried that momentum over to Friday night as the Wolverines rallied past Indiana for an 8-4 win in their series opener against the Hoosiers.

Indiana jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Michigan baseball evened the score in the fifth, only to see the Hoosiers jump in front 4-3.

That’s when Michigan’s bats took over, hitting three home runs in the final two innings to come away with the win. Jimmy Obertop gave Michigan its first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot that made it 5-4 Wolverines.

Dylan Stanton homered in the bottom of the eighth, as did Clark Elliott, who drove in two runs on his homer to make the margin 8-4. Willie Weiss got the win in relief. Noah Rennard got the save.

Michigan is now 10-6 in the Big Ten as well as 24-18 overall. Just two Big Ten teams are projected to make the NCAA tournament right now in baseball — Rutgers and Maryland. The Wolverines have two series against both teams and they need a run to have a shot at making it.

The Wolverines are currently fifth in the Big Ten. Rutgers is in first at 15-3, followed by Maryland at 11-4.

Michigan tennis teams advance to the NCAA Tournament

We don’t talk about Michigan tennis a bunch around here, but the Wolverines did win the Big Ten championships in men’s and women’s tennis and both teams notched wins in the opening round of their respective NCAA tournaments on Friday.

The fifth-ranked Wolverines defeated Western Michigan 5-0 winning three singles matches and two doubles matches, as well as leading three others before they were called off.

Michigan will face Oklahoma on Saturday. The Wolverines are the second-highest seed in their bracket. They are now in the round of 32. The highest seed in their bracket is Ohio State.

The women’s tennis team also got past Oregon without losing a match and will now face Texas Saturday, which is the host team.
