Michigan Football: 3 undrafted Wolverines who can make NFL rosters
By Paul Keren
1- Vincent Gray – New Orleans Saints
On May 1st in the morning, Vincent Gray was signed by the New Orleans Saints after not being selected in the draft. The Saints also signed defensive backs DaMarcus Fields and Jack Koerner. Out of all of those corners, Gray is the best and has the best chance to rise above each and make a roster spot.
Vincent Gray started off his Michigan career in a tough fashion where it looked like every other down; he was getting picked on.
Gray only got better for the wolverines, though, as his career continued. In his first year after red-shirting, he performed solid, recording 20 tackles and five pass breakups. In his second year, he put up 25 tackles and three pass breakups in 6 games, and this past year he put up career-high numbers in tackles (46) with 3 for loss, a sack, and eight pass break-ups.
This past year showed the potential of the young corner as he used his size and length to help produce a great defense.
I believe Gray’s size and length are also his most significant upside going forward. Gray is 6’2 with extraordinarily long arms to help defend passes at the next level and beyond. This build makes Gray a stereotypical NFL corner.
Gray’s ability to tackle and be physical in the run game will benefit him in the NFL too. The Saints liked the potential they saw out of him and will try to help him fix some kinks in his game, like giving up too much ground to faster wide-receivers and slow plant speed.
