Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from addition of Jaelin Llewellyn
What it means for the roster
People might be wondering how Llewellyn is going to fit because a scholarship isn’t even technically available at this point.
There have been rumblings about a transfer or two all offseason and with the deadline for players to enter the portal and be able to play next season without a waiver coming Sunday, some news should come quickly if it’s going to happen.
I would still be sort of surprised if both Houstan and Diabate returned, so I don’t think it will matter. But I don’t expect all of Michigan’s freshman class from 2021 to return.
However, this move shouldn’t impact point guard. Llewellyn can play the position but he seems more suitable for the two-spot, a job he would need to beat out Kobe Bufkin to win.
He also takes some of the load off guards like Collins and McDaniel, while also adding an off-ball shooting option who can create his own shot.
The coaching staff will probably have to do some recruiting of its own players to stay but opportunities are wide open for Collins and Bufkin to become core players next season.
It’s up to them to seize them.
