Daxton Hill became the second Michigan football player to go in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night. Here’s our reaction.

Another Wolverine is off the board, this time it’s Daxton Hill. He was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 31st in the draft. If you saw Daxton Hill play at Michigan, you’d know that he was one of the best Wolverines players on defense all three years that he was in Ann Arbor.

As a former five star recruit, the #14 overall player in the country in the class of 2019 from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Daxton Hill came to Michigan football with plenty of hype and excitement, after a National Signing Day flip from Alabama back to Michigan, one of the biggest recruiting wins of the Jim Harbaugh era.

He was originally touted for his tremendous speed, and ability to play multiple positions in high school, kind of similar to former Wolverine Jabrill Peppers, although not quite as versatile.

Multiple draft pundits have labeled Daxton Hill as one of the most underrated draft picks just because he wasn’t quite able to show his full bag of tricks at Michigan. These pundits have labeled Daxton Hill as a rising star among the 2022 Draft class ranks.

I wrote a scouting report of his strengths and weaknesses a couple of months ago here.

Daxton Hill’s highlight plays include his interception against Nebraska last year (that tipped pick that fell right into his lap on the ground) and his sack of Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz when he hit the dude so hard in the ribs that it forced him out of the rest of the game.

The Cincinnati Bengals are getting a star in the making who has a strong IQ, tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed can play nickel corner, box safety, or strong safety, and is very good in run support.

I can’t wait to see what Daxton Hill does in the NFL for the Bengals because Daxton Hill didn’t get to showcase all of his abilities and talents at Michigan. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot about Daxton Hill in the next few years, as I believe he will thrive in the NFL.

Hutch goes to Detroit. dark. Next

We here at GBM Wolverine wish him all the best in the NFL! Thanks, Dax for a great three years, and Go Blue!
