Daxton Hill – Kansas City Chiefs 29th Overall

Daxton Hill has been flying up draft boards, and for good reason; the former five-star recruit for Michigan football has excellent versatility that will translate well to the next level.

Daxton had a fantastic combine running a 4.38 40-yard dash, a 4.06 20-yard shuffle, and posting a 33.5 vertical jump. Hill also put up very solid stats in his junior season, steadily improving to 69 total tackles, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended.

As good as these stats are, the main element NFL teams are interested in is Hill’s versatility on defense. Hill played many roles at Michigan, including lots of slot corner, safety, and even some linebacker, this flexibility, along with his speed, is very intriguing.

The Chiefs have been trending up for Hill and could use him on the back end of their defense. Hill will immediately provide reinforcements to the empty secondary either at safety or in the slot corner role.

The Chiefs ranked near last in passing yards allowed, and their defensive backs are subpar with the exception of L’Jarius Sneed; they could use a hybrid defender like Daxton. The AFC West will be a very pass-happy division with the quarterbacks such as Russell Wilson, Justin Herbert, and Derek Carr; in this division, you will need good corners to cover all those passes. Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network is high on Hill with these comments.

"Beyond his speed and explosiveness, Hill is also exceptionally fluid. He’s extremely smooth and quick transitioning out of his backpedal. He can flip his hips and explode in an instant. This hip fluidity shows up downfield, where he’s shown he can flip and stick to receivers with ease. Hill can be an eraser in the deep third, but his combination of explosiveness and fluidity is also conducive to success in the box, as well as in the slot."

Hill should be the second Wolverine off the board unless this next Michigan football standout goes before him.
