Hunter Dickinson announced that he will return to Michigan basketball for his junior season and here is some instant reaction.

Sunday was always going to be a newsworthy day for the Michigan basketball team as three players with pro basketball aspirations are deciding between declaring for the NBA draft or returning to the Wolverines.

The first of those dominoes to fall is Hunter Dickinson. The buzz about him staying has been growing for weeks and with all of his NIL deals, he will be paid well to stick around for another season in Ann Arbor which is exactly what he’s doing, Tweeting simply: “I ain’t done yet.”

What Hunter Dickinson’s return means for Michigan

Players that are talented enough to play in the NBA or in the G-League, as Dickinson is, but return to play college basketball are extremely valuable and now the Wolverines return one of the best big men in the country.

Dickinson really did become a force on the offensive end last season and he’s only going to be even more deadly next season. At least one would think so. He’s added a perimeter jump shot to his arsenal, as well as the ability to score with both hands.

In two seasons with Dickinson, the Wolverines have reached the Sweet 16 twice and also won the Big Ten regular-season championship in 2021.

And while many expected Dickinson to leave for the NBA draft after this season, there is no guarantee he would be picked.

Eventually, he will play pro ball somewhere, but at Michigan, he can continue to develop for the next level, while also making money and competing for championships.

We have still yet to hear anything about Moussa Diabate or Caleb Houstan. Terrence Shannon also visited and had dinner with Dickinson a few nights ago, so this should help convince him to join the Wolverines too.
