Gavin Griffiths is one of the Michigan basketball recruiting targets that you need to know for the 2023 class and he’s set an official visit to U-M.

The spring and summer are key points on the college basketball recruiting calendar as the live evaluation period opens up and players are able to take official visits this summer.

Michigan basketball has been busy during the live evaluation period and we’ve been able to gather who some of the top targets are based on the attendance of Michigan coaches.

That live evaluation is important and having that communication. Then it’s about getting kids to campus for official visits and on that front, there is some news as Michigan basketball is set to receive an official visit from four-star 2023 guard Gavin Griffiths.

Griffiths is a 6-foot-7 shooting guard that is from the state of Connecticut. He’s kind of long and lanky but he shoots the ball really well.

His highlights include a bunch of 3-point shots from all over the floor. He’s got some mid-range game and he can attack the basket, but it’s clear the best part of his game is shooting, which is something Michigan needs.

Why Griffiths would be a perfect fit

When we broke down the 2023 recruiting class, shooting was a top priority. Last season’s team didn’t have enough of it and adding a shooter like Griffiths in 2023 would be huge, especially since he can play the two, as well as the three.

Griffiths is ranked 36th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2023 and he’s already taken an official visit, which was to Iowa last fall. He will also visit Rutgers and Virginia Tech, two schools that have been recruiting him longer than Michigan basketball.

The Wolverines offered at the beginning of March and around that same time, Griffiths talked to Zags Blog about how open his recruitment was.

UConn doesn’t seem to be in the mix as much, although you never know. Baylor was another school that he mentioned, as well as Providence, Ole Miss, and Creighton.

It will be interesting to see where Griffiths takes his fifth official visit. He’s already been to Rutgers, UConn, and Virginia Tech on unofficial visits.

Still, based on the list of teams and the very real need Michigan basketball has for a wing that can shoot in the 2023 class, this seems like a great match.

Getting a recruit in for an official visit is a key part of winning any recruitment and in the battle for Griffiths, Michigan basketball seems to be trending up.
