Can Michigan Football land another freak athlete from Idaho?
Michigan football landed a four-star tight end from Idaho in the 2022 recruiting class and assistant coaches will be visiting another top target in 2023 this week.
Some Michigan football fans are frustrated with the progress of the 2023 recruiting class and it’s understandable.
But now isn’t the time to panic. It’s time to trust the process. Last year, around this same time, Michigan football didn’t have many commitments. It did have five-star Will Johnson but the Wolverines did a bunch of work out west with underrated prospects such as Mason Graham, and also Idaho tight end Colston Loveland.
They wound up being two of Michigan football’s top commitments and both players impressed this spring. Loveland, a 6-foot-5 tight end was formerly a wide receiver, and last recruiting cycle, he became the first Idaho recruit to sign with Michigan in decades.
But now, the Wolverines are looking to go back to the well with a very similar prospect in 6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete Kenyon Sadiq.
Sadiq is out of Idaho Falls and he’s a bit more athletic than Loveland, but he’s also got the potential to be a tight end, as well as an edge rusher in addition to possibly playing another defensive position (he’s a true athlete).
However, he was highly productive as a wideout last season according to 247 sports, catching 78 passes for 1,162 yards and 19 touchdowns, running for two scores, and also adding two interceptions on defense in 2021. He also runs the 100-meter dash in 11.03.
Michigan offered Sadiq on April 6th and according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider, the Wolverines will be visiting him during the live evaluation period.
According to the On3.com prediction machine, Oregon looks to be the main contender for his commitment, although he’s picked up a lot of new offers of late.
Sadiq has been to Oregon twice but if the Wolverines can get him on campus this summer and once again this fall, they will at least have a shot.
But at the very least, Sadiq is a name to watch in terms of 2023 top targets.
