Ron Bellamy has been doing a great job on the recruiting trail as wide receivers coach and has Michigan football in the mix for a 5-star from Louisiana.

Michigan football’s recruiting efforts have come under fire for some fans recently as they are seemingly falling behind in some key quarterback recruitments in 2023 and 2024 with Dante Moore and CJ Carr.

But, not all is lost for the Wolverines. They have time to turn things around and hopefully, that will start this week when the live evaluation period opens up, which allows coaches to hit the road and see recruits.

Michigan football will get out and see Dante Moore this week. The Wolverines need to turn around that recruitment badly, so hopefully, there will be a shift in momentum.

In another recruitment, one that could prove to be important in the pursuit of both elite quarterbacks, the Wolveriners are gaining ground with five-star wideout Shelton Sampson, who like Bellamy, is from Louisiana.

The 6-foot-4, 181-pound receiver from Baton Rouge is ranked as the No. 15 recruit overall in the 2023 class, as well as No. 2 among wide receivers according to the On3 consensus rankings.

According to the On3.com prediction machine, LSU, the hometown team, is a big favorite for Sampson at the moment and has an 84-percent chance of landing his commitment.

Sampson recently included Michigan football among his top six and according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine (subscription required), Michigan is likely to get one of his five official visits.

It still feels like a long shot. But Bellamy was able to go to Louisiana and flip Amorion Walker from Notre Dame on signing day, so who knows, he could pull off an upset.

Recent Ohio offerees visit

Michigan’s Steve Clinkscale has ties to Ohio and it always seemed like he would be able to get the Wolverines more involved in the state and a slew of offers in the past week show it’s happening.

Sid Kaba, a defensive lineman offered last week, who has just a couple of power-5 offers from West Virginia and Duke, was on campus, as well as 2024 athlete Cameron Fraizer.

Both are out of Columbus and while they aren’t ranked super high right now, Michigan football has found underrated prospects before in the state such as Rod Moore, and is looking to do it again as the Wolverines need to increase their recruiting presence in the Buckeye state.
