While you can never say never, some reporting already suggests that Juwan Howard will remain as Michigan basketball’s head coach.

It didn’t take long for Juwan Howard’s name to surface in connection with the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job. It also didn’t take long for him to deny he was interested.

At least, that’s according to a new report released on Monday night by Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, who wrote this:

"“According to people familiar with Howard’s situation, he wants to continue coaching his two sons, Jett and Jace, who both play at Michigan. Howard interviewed for the Lakers job that eventually went to Vogel in 2019. Howard was an assistant coach for six seasons with Miami and won two championships as a player with James and the Heat.”"

Howard’s ties to LeBron and the fact that he interviewed for the job back in 2019, were both reasons to assume he would a candidate again.

But as we said when the rumors first came to light, Juwan was going to stay at Michigan and there are sources to back it up.

Juwan Howard continues to be sought after

That doesn’t mean that Juwan is going to coach Michigan basketball forever. I’ve always said I could see him leaving to coach in the NBA at some point. My sincere hope is that he leads the Wolverines to a national championship before that happens.

It’s also interesting how some continue to question Juwan’s ability to coach when he’s constantly pursued by NBA teams. He runs NBA-level offense and his teams have generally been really good on the defensive end too.

Juwan Howard will be an NBA head coach someday but don’t expect him to leave Ann Arbor anytime soon, especially with Jett Howard joining Jace on the roster this coming season.

The other names being mentioned are Nick Nurse of the Raptors and Doc Rivers of the 76ers which again, shows how highly respected Howard is among up-and-coming head coaches.
