Projecting Michigan Football’s post-spring depth chart
Wide receiver
Starters: Cornelius Johnson, Andrel Anthony, Ronnie Bell; Backups: A.J. Henning, Roman Wilson, Darrius Clemons
It’s pretty easy to see why Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh wanted to move Mike Sainristil over to defensive back because the Wolverines are absolutely loaded at wide receiver.
The fact that the coaching staff is talking about A.J. Henning in a Deebo Samuel role, while there’s a good chance that he’s the No. 4 on the receiver depth chart to open the season is crazy.
Henning is a weapon and he needs a lot more touches — as a receiver, out of the backfield, or however U-M can get him the ball. But Ronnie Bell is also going to be hard to keep off the field if he’s healthy and I feel like he will be back in the slot.
Johnson is established on the outside and is the one guy who doesn’t get talked about enough even though he led the Wolverines in yards and receptions last season. He also had a monster catch against Ohio State when Michigan trailed in the second quarter.
Andrel Anthony is due for a breakout season but Wilson and Clemons are two stellar deep threats and they will be given plenty of chances to make plays too.
It’s an embarrassment of riches so much so that the trio of Wilson, Henning, and Clemons who are projected to be Michigan’s backups, could start for a lot of teams in the Big Ten.
