5 things we learned about Michigan Football this spring
Michigan is poised for another really good season
Nothing is guaranteed, especially in the game of football. But after hearing all the rumblings from spring practices and seeing this Michigan football team with my own eyes, I’m a believer.
I was before but the speed and talent on both sides of the ball are really impressive, as is the depth. The offensive line easily has 7-8 guys that could start with the complete confidence of the coaching staff and behind them, younger ones like Giovanni El-Hadi, Greg Crippen, and Raheem Anderson were doing work in the spring game.
The defensive is equally deep and talented. Mazi Smith is going to be an early-round draft pick and Morris will be that in time too. Plus, Kris Jenkins looks like he will follow in the footsteps of his father (Kris Jenkins) and uncle (Cullen Jenkins) and play in the NFL too.
Michigan’s pass rush won’t be as dynamic as it was last season. That’s fair. But the Wolverines are going to be better in other areas defensively, and the offense should be elite with a capital E.
Beyond all the talent and having one of the best coaching staffs in college football, Michigan has a favorable schedule. The Wolverines face just four road games in 2022. That includes a trip to Ohio State and a tough game at Iowa early in the season.
Michigan State and Penn State come to the Big House, as does Nebraska. There is no Wisconsin and no Power-5 opponent in non-conference play.
Therefore, the Wolverines shouldn’t have an issue winning double-digit games and reaching another major bowl game in 2022. However, they have the chance to achieve even more, and wrestling the Big Ten Championship away from Michigan won’t be as easy as some expect.
