Michigan Football: 3 overreactions from the spring game
By Nick Popio
3. Davis Warren earned more playing time this fall
A lot of the buzz from Michigan football’s spring game has been about Davis Warren. He had a respectably good outing once Cade McNamara was done for the day. The walk-on went 12-23 for 175 yards and dazzled the crowd with some pinpoint throws. He could make a case for the third-string quarterback slot in the autumn.
As heartfelt as his story is though, it’s hard to see him be on the gridiron for any other reason than a blowout, which makes this statement an overreaction. McNamara and J.J. McCarthy are the unquestioned one and two and there is no debate about it.
Warren’s best chance to play would be to transfer unless he really wants to be at Michigan. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to enter the portal someday.
He has the tools to get a realistic shot at a MAC school or at the FCS level or lower.
