5 things to watch in Michigan Football’s spring game
Pass rush
Outside of the quarterback position, there probably isn’t a more important position on the field than pass rusher and Michigan football lost a couple of gems in Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo to the NFL draft.
Replacing that production isn’t going to be easy and Michigan isn’t going to get after the quarterback in exactly the same way. For instance, the Wolverines should do better pass-rushing on the interior, with guys like Mazi Smith, George Rooks, and Mike Morris all skilled in that area.
Jim Harbaugh has talked extensively about Morris this spring and the 6-foot-6 defensive end is one of the guys projected to take a big leap this offseason.
Morris is one to keep an eye on, as well as Mazi Smith, Kris Jenkins, Rayshaun Benny and others on the interior. On the edge, I’m looking to see how well Taylor Upshaw gets after the quarterback, as well as Jaylen Harrell and Braiden McGregor — a guy Michigan really needs to produce.
The Wolverines are stellar on the offensive line and that extends to the entire two-deep so it will be interesting to see how the pass rush is able to get home.
