5 things to watch in Michigan Football’s spring game
On Saturday, Michigan football fans will see the Wolverines take part in the spring game, and here are five things to watch.
In just over 24 hours, we’ll get our first real look at the 2022 Michigan football team. The Wolverines have been taking part in spring practices for a few weeks and Saturday, it will come to an end.
We’ve heard how things have gone this spring and there has been plenty of info coming from players, coaches, and insider reports. But it’s different when you can see it with your own eyes and this won’t be just a couple of minutes of highlights and clips.
This is going to be an actual football game, which I love. The Wolverines have divided up into teams — Cade McNamara is going to play some for both — but there will be a Maize squad and a Blue squad and they are going to compete.
Not only will see we get to see how young players are developing, and position battles are going, but we’ll be able to see how the entire team is coming along.
So with that in mind here’s a look at five things to watch for Michigan football ahead of its spring game on Saturday.
Cade and the QBs
Quarterbacks always get the most attention and that will be true Saturday as all eyes will be on Cade McNamara to see how he’s improved since last season. Many assume that when J.J. McCarthy is healthy, he’ll be able to win the job.
But McNamara isn’t going to give it up without a fight. He’s as tough a competitor as there is on the Michigan roster which is probably why Harbaugh loves him so much. Cade isn’t the best athlete. He doesn’t have the best arm — sort of like Jim — he just wins.
And I think he will cement his status as the starter going forward on Saturday. McCarthy is going to make a push and he’ll still play just like last season. Yet, Cade will start vs Colorado State and his performance this spring, along with the momentum it builds, will be a big reason why.
