Fardaws Aimaq, Utah Valley

One of the first guys to enter his name in the transfer portal this offseason was Utah Valley center Fardaws Aimaq and Michigan basketball is one of the many programs that has been in contact.

With Hunter Dickinson likely headed to the NBA, Aimaq, a 6-foot-11 big man with all sorts of skill makes great sense. He averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season and scored 18.6 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range on 1.5 attempts per game.

Aimaq got himself to the free throw line over six times a game and made 72 percent of his attempts. He also averaged 1.2 blocks per game in the WAC.

However, as good a fit as he would be, I don’t see him as a fit if Diabate is still on the roster. Part of the issue for Michigan this year was playing two bigs at the same time. That forced Diabate to play the power forward role and the dynamic would be similar.

Now, if both Dickinson and Diabate are gone, then Michigan is likely going to need transfers to come in and start at both positions. Terrance Williams or Houstan could also move up to the four but that presents its own challenges.

Yet, depending on how these decisions by current Michigan basketball players go, Aimaq could be an ideal fit and a real possibility for the Wolverines.
