Michigan Basketball: 3 Keys for Wolverines against Tennessee
Be competitive in 3-point battle
Tennessee is one of those teams that lives and dies by the 3-pointer. Of course, elite defense is key to the Vols’ success too but on offense, much of what they do is centered on the 3-point shot.
The Vols ranked 82nd during the season in attempts and 46th in 3-point percentage. Michigan does a great job of not allowing 3-point attempts and gave up just 20.1 per game. So that will be an interesting battle to watch as the Wolverines will try to force more 2-pointers.
Tennessee rained down 3-pointers against Longwood and Colorado State did the same to Michigan, making eight in the first half. Yet, Colorado State couldn’t score inside and despite hitting 12 treys, the Rams lost by double digits.
Santiago Vescovi is a name to watch as he hit six triples against Longwood. Kennedy Chandler also made three. He’s the point guard but also plays some off the ball and is a highly skilled player.
Michigan needs to limit Tennessee but also needs more than four makes from downtown. Having Jones back will help. Caleb Houstan is the key though. He needs to knock down open looks and Terrance Williams, when he’s on the floor, needs to make a shot or two.
The Wolverines don’t have to win the 3-point scoring battle, but Michigan can’t get outscored 36-12 as it did against Colorado State, not with the way Tennessee defends.
