Michigan football added to its 2023 recruiting class on Tuesday and here are three thoughts on the addition of defensive lineman Brooks Bahr.

The Michigan football program needed to start building some momentum on the recruiting trail and the Wolverines did just that on Tuesday with the verbal commitment of 2023 defensive end Brooks Bahr.

Bahr was offered by Michigan football soon after defensive line coach Mike Elston was hired and after taking a recent visit, he has committed to U-M.

Bahr is listed as a defensive end according to 247 sports and he’s ranked as the No. 504 prospect overall, however, he’s got the ability to play more than one position and that’s just one reason to feel good about Bahr as the Wolverines latest commitment.

A great fit

Bahr started trending with expert predictions to Michigan football and once Elston and the Wolverines got involved it seemed like a no-brainer.

Yes, Bahr is a three-star recruit, and that discounts him in the eyes of some, but he’s ranked 504th overall and is the ninth-ranked player in the state of Illinois. The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder was offered by a total of nine Big Ten teams with Michigan football included.

The thing I love about him is that he’s a perfect fit for Michigan’s scheme. He can grow in a three-technique or settle in as a five-technique, sort of like Mike Morris did last year.

When you play an odd front you need to have those long, lanky guys, who are also capable of holding up against double teams to keep blockers off linebackers.
