The last time Michigan basketball failed to make the Sweet 16 was during the 2015-16 season. After a shaky regular season, the Wolverines will look to make a fifth-straight appearance in the Sweet Sixteen this March.

Michigan Basketball cliches favorable seeding

Following Juwan Howard’s impressive 2nd season, most expected the Wolverines to be right back in the national title conversation in 2022.

To the surprise of many, Michigan has been as disappointing as the fan base can tolerate this season, yet are still heading to the NCAA tournament as an 11-seed.

On Thursday, the Wolverines will face-off against 6-seed Colorado State in the first round of the Big Dance. The team will face either 3-seed Tennessee or 14-seed Longwood if Michigan wins.

After a rocky start to the 2021-22 season, the Wolverines salvaged their season, picking up some huge wins down the stretch.

Michigan basketball managed to clinch a decent seed with eight Quad-one and two wins in this year’s tournament. As selection Sunday came to a close, the Wolverines opened as favorites over the CSU Rams in the first round.

Can Michigan basketball steal a few games?

After blowing a 17-point lead to Indiana in the first round of the Big Ten conference tournament, Michigan fans are unsure of what to expect against Colorado State.

Since defeating Purdue on February 10th, the Wolverines have alternated wins and losses every other game. This streak of inconsistency leaves many concerned, but it should mean a victory for Michigan if the past holds true.

If the Wolverines can defeat CSU, they will likely face off against Tennessee in the second round. Though it is March and anything can happen, the Volunteers are a solid team and have their eyes fixed on a deep tournament run.

That being said, a win over Tennessee would mean a fifth-straight Sweet Sixteen berth for Michigan basketball — and is very possible after getting a glimpse at the seeding that the Wolverines were given.
