The season isn’t over yet for Michigan Basketball

Despite a tough loss in the Big Ten Tournament, the season isn’t over yet for the Michigan basketball team.

Just like I did when the football team lost to Little Brother, I am here again to convince Michigan fans not to give up on the season, but this time, for basketball.

Yes, almost all Michigan fans in the comments are going to be negative and explain what Michigan basketball hasn’t done this season, but enough of the negative stuff. We already have a lot of negativity in this world right now, and we don’t need more of it.

When (not if) Michigan basketball makes the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday, guess what? A new season begins. That’s the beauty of March Madness and why it is better than any other sport in America at this time. It’s not like football where one loss can derail a season, nope.

Once March hits and the region, opponent, location, and time are revealed: it’s go time. Michigan has had the MOST up-and-down season I can ever recall over the last month. The W-L back-and-forth thing is extremely maddening and makes us all want to pull our hair out, yes?

Well, Michigan just lost to Indiana, so if the pattern continues, the team will beat whoever is their next opponent. In the NCAA Tournament, it’s all about surviving and advancing. Throw everything you think you know out of the window and get ready for utter chaos.

There is no complete juggernaut team this year like last season. Everybody can be beaten. Some of the two-seeded teams have six to seven losses. Some of the one-seeded teams have four to five losses. Everybody has lost more than one game this year. Everybody.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a team with more battle scars (L’s) that has endured every kind of loss and every kind of victory than this year’s Michigan basketball squad. That should all bode well for them in this tournament.

Doubt Michigan basketball at your own risk

Am I saying that they will win a national championship? I definitely would not bet on it. But, when Michigan basketball has had its back against the proverbial wall and has literally needed a victory, the Wolverines have found it, someway, somehow. So, doubt them at your own risk.

Was the Indiana loss extremely bad? Of course. It brought back UCF vibes from earlier in the season, as Michigan completely collapsed. But every team blows huge leads once in a while. It’s basketball and it’s a game of runs. That’s the beauty of the sport. You think you’re safe, but almost no lead is totally safe.

Anyways, please for everyone’s sake, be positive. I’m not saying that Michigan will make a national title, but a run is still possible, despite all of the losses and all of the frustration. The team just needs to figure it out, and go. This tournament CAN be the time where the team finally gels as it should.

The main concern is bench depth. The team won’t go far if Terrance Williams and/or Brandon Johns Jr. don’t step up. Also, Caleb HAS to hit his shots. Two main concerns. But hey, we’re not being negative, right?

Call me paranoid, call me a homer, call me unrealistic, call me “living in a fantasy world.” Call me whatever. It does not matter to me. Until football comes back, basketball is pretty much all we have. So, might as well make the most of it while the season (at least temporarily) is still alive.

Joe Lunardi is as close to a committee member as can be without actually being one, and he has the team in on the “Last Four Byes” which means no play-in game.

Think of it this way. The team just has to get lucky (or play a great game from start to finish) and win six times. That’s it. Just six. I’ll even take four. That means an Elite Eight appearance.

Only three for a Sweet 16. Just three. Nope, the team hasn’t won back-to-back since forever, but that frankly has me even more excited for the tournament because I know Hunter Dickinson, Eli, Caleb, DeVante, and Moussa are ready to prove themselves.

Nothing else matters except now. Forget everything about the regular season and Big Ten tournament. All of that is the past. All I ask is for Michigan fans to not stress on Selection Sunday and just relax.

dark. Next. Gut reactions to brutal loss to IU

I know things look extremely dire right now, but now is the time to really root for this team, even if you still have doubts. Push away your doubts for now, and get loud for this team.
