4. Trente Jones

Michigan football has some interesting position battles to watch this spring and one of them is at right tackle. Andrew Stueber was the starter there last season but has since moved on and it’s now a battle between Trente Jones and Karsen Barnhart.

According to head coach Jim Harbaugh, who spoke to the media earlier this week, Trente Jones is currently the leader in the right tackle competition.

Jones was a top-100 prospect coming out of high school and is listed at 6-foot-4, 307 pounds. It’s a little short for a tackle but he’s been impressive this spring. Barnhart is also a really good player and holding him off won’t be easy.

Yet, there’s a chance he could also move inside or he could simply be the sixth offensive lineman since he would essentially be able to backup almost every position but the center.

This is just one of those years where Michigan football has seven or eight guys that can legitimately start. But as we saw last season, all of those guys are going to be needed at one point or another.

In terms of Trente Jones, who has zero career starts (outside of being a sixth offensive lineman) that will change in 2022 and my bet is that he starts double-digit games next season.
