Michigan football recently hosted five-star quarterback recruit Dante Moore but he also took a trip to LSU and here’s the latest on him and others in 2023.

As far as Michigan football is concerned, there is only one option at quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class and right now, that’s five-star Dante Moore.

Moore is from Detroit and while the Wolverines have also offered Arch Manning, Michigan football is only serious about Moore in the 2023 class.

Of course, that could change, especially if Michigan starts losing ground in his recruitment. But Jim Harbaugh offered Moore when he was an eighth-grader and there’s reason to believe Michigan can come out on top in this battle.

Notre Dame has surged lately and one Notre Dame expert at On3.com even put in a prediction for him to land with the Irish but no one else has followed suit. It’s true that Notre Dame desperately wants more and delayed a visit with another top-100 QB.

So Moore is the top target there and he visited LSU’s Junior Day over the weekend after hanging in out in Ann Arbor last week for Michigan’s basketball game with Semaj Morgan a current U-M commit.

LSU can’t be discounted in this race and is probably the most serious contender of the SEC schools which is probably due to Brian Kelly who was obviously recruiting Moore hard at Notre Dame before he took the job in Baton Rouge.

Yet, I feel good about the fact that Moore visited Michigan last week and he’ll obviously be on campus again. He’s been there plenty of times.

This is a recruitment where Jim Harbaugh really needs to make a difference. That’s the key to me. He was very influential in landing J.J. McCarthy, as well as Will Johnson and I think if he can quash the worries about him leaving for the NFL with Moore, that will go a long way.

Notre Dame and LSU feel like the two biggest threats, and I’m not counting out Penn State or Ohio State either, but I also feel like the Wolverines are in a solid spot, with work to do.

Michigan has some momentum with 4-star DT Devan Houstan

It’s been a little slow in terms of the 2023 recruiting class for Michigan football. There are offers going out and some visits happening but the Wolverines don’t have much momentum right now.

There was recently an expert pick for defensive lineman Brooks Bahr to wind up with the Wolverines. The three-star defensive lineman was offered by Mike Elston recently and Elston is also making a positive impact with four-star defensive tackle Devan Houstan.

Houstan was offered by Elston at Notre Dame and the Irish were thought to be the early favorite, yet Elston offered Houstan at Michigan and he also visited last week, which is a positive sign.

Houstan is the brother of Michigan basketball player Caleb Houstan and is 6-foot-4, 270 pounds. He’s been rising up the boards lately and is ranked 218th overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

The athletic d-lineman also has offers from Penn State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan State, Illinois, North Carolina State, Kentucky, South Carolina, Pitt, and Virginia Tech among others.

So his recruitment has been picking up steam and of all the schools in the mix, it doesn’t feel like anyone has the momentum that Michigan football currently has.

That doesn’t mean the Wolverines will get his commitment but they are in as good a position as anyone right now.
