Cornerback

Will Johnson, the man pictured above, is coming to the Michigan football program to make an immediate impact. He enrolled early and even practiced with the Wolverines ahead of the Orange Bowl. Yet, he’s going to have to work his way through some veterans for a starting job.

DJ Turner was outstanding last season for Michigan fotoball at corner and probably doesn’t get enough credit for how good he played down the stretch. He’s going to man one corner spot but the other job could come down to Will Johnson and veteran Gemon Green.

The Wolverines already had some attrition at cornerback this offseason with Andre Seldon and Darion Green-Warren leaving via the transfer portal. Mike Sainristil also moved over from the offense and I’m assuming that is to play in the slot.

Green has made strides over the past two seasons. He’s also got some really good qualities for a cornerback such as length and speed. But he struggles to find the ball. Yet, if he can fix that, he might be able to hold off Johnson from starting, at least right away.

Regardless, Johnson is going to play a lot next season but it might end up being as the No. 3 cornerback instead of the two. We shall see.
