Michigan Football: New expert pick in for 2023, latest on Dante Moore
The Michigan football team has received a new expert prediction for the 2023 recruiting class plus the latest on five-star QB Dante Moore.
When it comes to the 2023 recruiting class, Michigan football is off to a solid start thanks to five commitments in the eighth-ranked class according to the On3 team rankings.
And according to Michigan recruiting expert EJ Holland, the Wolverines are in the pole position for another 2023 recruit as he placed a new prediction for three-star defensive lineman Brooks Bahr to wind up with Michigan football.
Bahr is a recruit that was recently offered by the Wolverines and defensive line coach Mike Elston. Bahr is 6-foot-6, 285 pounds, and is out of Wilmette, Illinois. Notre Dame was likely the favorite before as Bahr has a strong rapport with Elston, U-M’s defensive line coach.
Ranked 509th according to the On3 consensus rankings for the 2023 recruiting class, Bahr would be a great fit for the Wolverines defensive line as he could be a five-technique or even a three-technique down the road depending on his weight.
Either way, when you play an odd front, it’s helpful to have tall, long defensive lineman sort of like Mike Morris, who I expect to start as a five-technique this season for Michigan football.
Bahr fits that mold perfectly and he’s also a guy with offers from a number of Big Ten schools such as Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Illinois, but Michigan seems like the new leader.
Latest on Michigan’s recruitment of five-star Dane Moore
It wasn’t all that long ago that five-star QB recruit Dante Moore, who is out of Detroit, was projected by another On3 expert to Notre Dame.
However, Holland recently interviewed Moore (subscription required) and indicated that Moore didn’t think that prediction was something to take seriously, at least at this point.
That being said, it’s hard to consider Michigan football the leader, and Moore, who doesn’t have any crystal ball projections at this point, still seems to have a pretty open recruitment.
The return of Jim Harbaugh and him signing his contract extension should help. He needs to convince Moore that he is going to be around for the long haul. Adding former Michigan star Denard Robinson to the recruiting staff should help too.
The key takeaway with Moore is that there is a long way to go and while Notre Dame is certainly right there among the top schools, Michigan is too and the Wolverines have plenty of time to turn this around just like they did with Will Johnson in 2022.
