Unsung heroes

Against Illinois on Sunday, there was basically no contribution from the bench and the young guys just weren’t very productive.

And after a couple of quick fouls on DeVante Jones early, freshman point guard Frankie Collins was thrust into the spotlight and couldn’t have performed better.

While Collins didn’t score in the game, he dished out four assists, forced two turnovers, and was just stellar on both ends of the floor. He had one turnover in the first half and did a tremendous job of running the offense and creating open looks.

Collins used a great move inside to find Dickinson for a dunk, and then also drove baseline and kicked it out to another unsung hero — Terrance Williams, who made three triples in the win last night over Michigan State.

Not only did Collins look like a future starting point guard against the Spartans, but his fellow freshman Caleb Houstan also bounced back from an awful game in East Lansing.

Houstan finished with a quiet 16 points but hit both of his 3-point attempts and had 6-of-7 makes at the line as he needed just seven shots to get his points. He also grabbed four rebounds, only had one turnover, and continued to play better defense, as the entire team did.
