Gut reactions to Michigan Basketball’s huge win over Michigan State
Michigan basketball got a much-needed win on Tuesday night and Hunter Dickinson’s performance was the biggest reason why.
The Michigan basketball team had its proverbial back against the wall heading into Tuesday’s matchup with Michigan State and the Wolverines played like it.
Especially Hunter Dickinson.
We said that Dickinson having a dominant performance was going to be a huge key for the Wolverines against the Spartans and he delivered in a big way. Dickinson started the game 4-for-4 and finished 13-of-19 for 33 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots, while turning the ball over just once.
Others stepped up too. Frankie Collins played a bigger role than expected due to early foul trouble for DeVane Jones and the freshman delivered a stellar half of basketball. He didn’t score but dished out four assists and had two steals.
Terrance Williams III knocked down three 3-pointers and even Brandon Johns hit one. Caleb Houstan was good again at home and Jones, even though he was sidelined for most of the first half, had nine in the second half and had just one second-half turnover.
Michigan shot 58 percent from 3-point range, while the Spartans shot just 31 and the Wolverines did a stellar job defensively until the last 10 minutes or so.
Even still, Hunter Dickinson was good enough to bring home the win, a win that greatly increased Michigan’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament. Here are the gut reactions
