Michigan Football: Scouting top 6 O-line targets for Wolverines in 2023
By Alex Hinton
Breaking down some of the top recruiting targets on the offensive line for Michigan football in the 2023 recruiting class.
In the 2022 class, Michigan football signed three-star tackles Alessandro Lorenzetti and Connor Jones. It also raided Virginia for a pair of transfers.
The Wolverines flipped four-star tackle Andrew Gentry, a former top target who was serving his Mormon mission. Gentry counts toward the 2020 class and will have time to develop and reacclimate himself to football.
However, the Wolverines will be expecting an immediate contribution from center Victor Oluwatimi, who will be the favorite to replace Andrew Vastardis.
Oluwatimi was a Rimington Award finalist in 2021 and a second-team All-American by several publications. He was ranked as a four-star in 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings.
Michigan football could also add five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. He is the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2022 class and would be the Wolverines’ second highest-rated recruit in its 2022 class.
Conerly Jr. will make his decision this month and he even managed to outlast the Jim Harbaugh saga. With Harbaugh returning, it is time to move forward on the 2023 class.
Michigan currently has the No. 9 2023 recruiting class, but it does not have a commitment from an offensive lineman yet. Here are a few offensive line recruits the Wolverines will be targeting this cycle. For a look at skill position recruiting, click here.
Five-Star OT Kadyn Proctor (Des Moines, IA/Southeast Polk HS)
Proctor is the top offensive tackle target on the board for many college programs. He is ranked as the No. 1 tackle prospect in the country and the No. 5 overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite.
At 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, Proctor has prototypical size and length to be a high-level offensive tackle. He also has the quickness to deal with speed rushers off the edge and the strength and punch to be a mauler in the run game. He has the potential to be a franchise left tackle in college and beyond.
Naturally, as the top tackle in the country, it will not be easy for Michigan football to land him. Proctor has Michigan among a list of suitors that includes Iowa, Penn State, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State.
He has spring trips planned to Iowa, Oregon, and Penn State ($), and will take official visits this summer. Michigan will need to secure one of his official visits and probably get him on campus unofficially to emerge as a contender.
Due to its offensive line tradition and proximity, Iowa may be tough to beat. However, Michigan did land former four-stars Amara Darboh and Oliver Martin out of Iowa.
