Last Sunday, Michigan baseball finished off its first seven games of the season, three of which came in the 2022 College Baseball Showdown against some Big 12 competition. As the Wolverines maintain a 5-2 record, here is what you need to know of the season so far.

College Baseball Showdown

The Wolverines’ first three games of the 2022 season would come during the 2022 College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, TX, against three opposing Big 12 teams. On opening night, Michigan baseball fell to Texas Tech, 7-6; however, Michigan rebounded with a 10-2 win over Kansas State in their following game.

To finish off the series, the Wolverines lost to Oklahoma, 6-1. After a 1-2 start, Michigan needed to get back in the win column quickly.

The Wolverines’ fourth game was also located in Arlington, TX, against UT Arlington. After an action-packed game, Michigan defeated the Mavericks, 9-7. The Wolverines closed out their first seven games with a trip to Miami, FL, to take on Seton Hall and Florida International.

Seton Hall and Florida International

Michigan baseball was slated to face-off against Seton Hall once before playing Florida International in a two-game series. Against Seton Hall, the Wolverines dominated with a decisive 8-2 win. After Michigan’s first five games of 2022, the Wolverines were 3-2 overall.

Michigan managed to carry their momentum into the next night, taking game one of their series against FIU by a score of 16-8, and game two 13-9. Following an unimpressive 1-2 start, the Wolverines have won four straight as they enter their next series on March 1st.

What is next for Michigan baseball

Michigan is set to square off against Florida Atlantic University before traveling to North Carolina for the Keith LeClair Classic. The Wolverines will see some familiar competition in that tournament, taking on Maryland, East Carolina, and Indiana State.

Once the Keith LeClair Classic wraps up, Michigan’s schedule will get tougher, taking on Louisville in a three-game road series and then Vanderbilt, the team that defeated Michigan in the College World Series only a few years ago.

The Wolverines’ home schedule will start on March 18th at 4 pm for the first of a three-game series against Dayton in Ann Arbor, MI. Michigan starts Big Ten play on March 25th against Nebraska.
