Michigan football has started spring practices and here’s a look at some of the reported position changes that have taken place.

The Wolverines have started spring ball and while they are taking this next week off due to spring break, there is already talk about what’s been going on in Ann Arbor.

Chris Balas of The Wolverine came out with a report on Saturday and talked about some key position changes.  Balas indicated that the move of Mike Sainristil from wide receiver to cornerback is confirmed, even though it’s not official on the Michigan football roster.

One thing that was interesting is the fact that there is a trade of sorts as Eamonn Dennis is moving from defensive back to receiver, just as Sainristil is doing the opposite.

Dennis was ranked 484 overall in the 2020 recruiting class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is a dynamic athlete. He’s a guy who you could see getting some touches in the slot but with all of the playmakers back on offense, plus some talented incoming freshmen such as Darrius Clemons, getting on the field next season might be tough, unless there is a transfer and who knows, that could still be coming at some point after spring ball as the depth chart sorts itself out more.

That’s one reason why Sainristil it was thought that Sainristil was moving to defense. Not only are the Wolverines down a few key players from last season there, but the wide receiver room is crowded, so we’ll see how it plays out and more speed on offense isn’t a bad thing.

Michigan making a bigger role for A.J. Henning

Another thing that Balas reported of interest is that A.J. Henning is going to see more touches out of the backfield this season. He did get some carries last year getting nine attempts for 162 yards and two touchdowns including one against Ohio State.

Henning also caught 10 passes for 79 yards last season and the main thing is he needs to touch the ball more. Whether that’s handing it to him, throwing it to him, or whatever, the Wolverines need to get him the ball more and it sounds like they will.
