Defensive line

Starters: Kris Jenkins, Mazi Smith, Mike Morris (5-tech), Taylor Upshaw (DE); Backups: Rayshaun Benny, Julius Welschof, Jordan Whittley, Braiden McGregor

it was a blow for the defensive line when Chris Hinton declared for the NFL draft. But he put together a really solid season and he’s going to be picked sooner than people expect.

But as far as Michigan football is concerned next season, the defensive line should be just line. Kris Jenkins really came on last season and he’s going to have a breakout season.

Mazi Smith had one of those last year and he could have gone to the NFL draft too. He was basically a top-100 recruit coming out of high school and played like it last season. He will hold down the middle of the defense and Mike Morris is an ideal five-technique who will get some chances to rush on the edge too, although I love him as an interior pass rusher.

Taylor Upshaw is probably the guy that starts right away for Aidan Hutchinson but don’t sleep on Braiden McGregor who was projected to do big things before his knee injury and if he’s 100 percent healthy, he could have an impact next season.
