Eli and DeVante had to shoot too much

DeVante Jones is playing much better basketball and Eli Brooks was getting things going offensively, but on Saturday, Ohio State did a great job of forcing Michigan’s guards to take the majority of shots.

Dickinson did get 17 attempts but Brooks wasn’t far behind with a whopping 16 field-goal attempts. He connected on three of seven attempts from beyond the arc and had five assists, but still, that’s too many shots for Eli.

The same can be said for Jones who attempted 11 shots and made three. Combined, Brooks and Jones were 9-for-28. They did account for 13 total assists as Brooks finished with five and Jones had eight.

Michigan just struggled to get others involved as Caleb Houstan only managed five shot attempts and just a single 3-pointer. The issue is that outside of Dickinson in the post, there aren’t many guys who can create shots on this team.

Jones and Brooks are the two best options and when they facilitate, the offense is normally running smoothly. But on Saturday, despite some solid ball movement, Ohio State turned them into scorers and that was a winning formula for the Buckeyes.
