Moves need to be made quickly

As it stands, Michigan football needs to make two pretty important hires — offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.

The Wolverines lost their play-callers on both sides of the ball and that’s not ideal but as we said, at least offensively, it wasn’t like Gattis was a one-man show. Neither was Mike Macdonald.

However, Michigan football needs a big-time hire to replace Macdonald. His NFL background proved to be a real weapon against Ohio State and while he wasn’t perfect (up-tempo), he did a great job of adjusting on the fly.

Michigan is looking at Larry Foote who doesn’t have play-calling experience but was rumored to be an NFL DC candidate and still is. He could be a star at Michigan football like Macdonald and if not Foote, Jesse Minter seems like an ideal fit.

Minter coached with Macdonald in Baltimore and will know the scheme plus he’s coached in college and this will be far from his time coordinating the defense.

I know some folks want a splash hire on offense but I don’t think it’s necessary. The Wolverines just need to promote the talent they currently have on staff and find a standout DC.

Doing all that is much easier said than done. But if Harbaugh and Michigan can pull it off, the Wolverines can recapture momentum and change the narrative that the sky is falling.
