Michigan football could be building some momentum on the recruiting trail Saturday with the commitment of in-state running back Cole Cabana.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the whole Jim Harbaugh saga with the NFL was how it was going to impact recruiting?

So far, it’s hard to know. It’s obvious that some of Michigan football‘s momentum following its win over Ohio State and a trip to the College Football Playoff has been slowed.

However, the Wolverines might be gaining some back on Saturday as they are expected to pick up a verbal commitment from 2023 in-state running back Cole Cabana.

Cabana is out of Dexter, Michigan, and is ranked 362nd overall in the 2023 recruiting class as well as the seventh-best player in the state of Michigan. He’s 6-foot, 180 pounds, and lightning-fast as he was recently clocked doing the 40-yard dash in 4.34. Here’s what he told 247 sports about his recruitment:

"“Overall, it was great. It was great to talk to all the coaches again as well as be on the field to see what Michigan football was about. I talked a lot to Coach Hart as well as Coach Poggi. Coach Hart had been to my game the night before, so we talked a lot about that. We talked about things he really liked about me as well as things that I need to work on to bring my game up to the next level.”"

That’s the kind of player Michigan football would love to add to its backfield for the future and according to the crystal ball trends, that’s exactly what will happen.

Cabana is trending to Michigan football

In the past few days, Cabana has picked up a total of 10 crystal ball predictions to Michigan football which really makes this a slam dunk for the Wolverines.

Running backs coach Mike Hart played a key role in this process and it seemed like Cabana was going to choose Michigan football even if Harbaugh left for the NFL.

That tells you the kind of job that Mike Hart has done in this recruitment, which is going to give the Wolverines a key victory over in-state rival Michigan State. It will also provide some much-needed momentum on the recruiting trail.

Because right now, and after a National Signing Day in which the return of Harbaugh was the biggest (and only) addition, the Wolverines desperately need some momentum.

If all goes as planned on Saturday, they will get it.
