Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from hard fought loss to Purdue
By Nick Popio
2. Michigan basketball had a potent offensive outburst in a loss
Believe it or not Michigan out shot Purdue from the field and beyond the arc. Michigan hit 56%, while Purdue was at 52%.
From long-distance, Michigan basketball nailed eight triples for at a 45% clip, and Purdue was only 28% from out there. That usually means the better shooting team wins, but that wasn’t the case in this shootout.
Purdue’s big three of Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey, and Trevion Williams did their part. They totaled 55 of the 82 points for the Boilermakers. Ivey did the most damage, especially when he was driving into the paint for layups and undefended dunks. Purdue’s reserves did nothing of note, besides Williams, who spelled Edey quite effectively.
It may have been Michigan’s best offensive performance in a loss all season long. It doesn’t mean that it gives them a win in that column, but maybe this can be a moment where they seize the momentum and start putting another winning streak together. Kind of like what happened in the loss to Illinois earlier in January.
