Time to hit the trail

Signing day ended up being a big positive for Michigan football but not because of any recruits joining the program. In fact, it was a rough day.

Three-star edge rusher Kevonte Henry flipped to Oklahoma and U-M also missed out on three-star running back Andrew Paul who went to Georgia.

Henry wasn’t going to sign with the Wolverines even if Harbaugh stayed on staff but Michigan could have had a chance with some other recruits and certainly needs to try and get back into the mix with five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr who is deciding in March.

More importantly, Harbaugh needs to refocus on the 2023 recruiting class. Following a playoff berth and a Big Ten title, Michigan football had momentum and a chance to build an elite recruiting class. It still has that opportunity but recruiting has taken a hit.

Harbaugh’s first call should be to five-star quarterback Dante Moore, the Detroit King superstar in the 2023 class. Hell, Harbaugh should have called him as soon as he hung up with Warde Manuel and told him he wanted to return.

Moore is that important. Arch Manning might be the big prize in 2023 to some, but Moore is right there in terms of talent and he needs to be the cornerstone of Michigan’s 2023 class.

With Harbaugh back in the fold, there is a realistic chance of making that happen, and of making the 2023 class a true game-changer for the Wolverines.
