Michigan Football: NFL Draft scouting report on Hassan Haskins
Positives
Hassan Haskins shared the backfield with two other running backs in the 2021-22 season. His body type and role were different compared to his other running back teammates, Blake Corum, and Donovan Edwards.
He had the role of workhorse back, sometimes accumulating 30-35 carries in a game when Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards got injured during the season. Haskins’s bigger physical frame is what sticks out immediately when putting on the film.
This makes Haskins hard to bring down. He’s a physical, energetic tailback that loves contact, and has the size and legs to churn out the tough yards. Haskins has great contact balance, as even the biggest linebackers don’t often knock Haskins over, and like mentioned, his legs are constantly churning out extra yards. He almost never loses yardage, as he pretty much always falls forward.
That’s not the only thing that Hassan Haskins can do though. He is a vastly underrated athlete. He has solid burst in space, and gets from 0-100 very quickly once he hits the hole and sees a gap. He’s also shiftier than people think out of his cuts for his size. He’s fairly light on his toes for such a physical running back.
To add to his shiftiness, Haskin’s hips are very flexible. He can sidestep defenders, correct himself, and gain speed rapidly. Haskins is also explosive vertically, as he has the athleticism to leap over opposing defenders, and there’s probably more untapped athleticism waiting to break out.
One of Haskins’s best attributes is remaining at the same level of speed or faster up the middle of the hole, which is where the majority of his runs went during his Michigan football career. His feet are faster than people think, and he has good footwork for a bigger tailback.
His next biggest strength is his patience and ability to manipulate angles. He can find small holes and go through them, and he has great spatial awareness to wait for blockers, so he often doesn’t get caught from behind by a defender.
Hassan Haskins has a great motor, as it always looks like he’s giving his 100%, as he has that aggressive mindset to accept contact and go through it, lowering his shoulders, and punishing opposing defenders. He has great endurance as he never seems to tire and is a full 60-minutes kind of guy. He is very good at protecting the football, as he didn’t record a single fumble in over two seasons as a Wolverine (from ’19-end of college career). Durability is also definitely not an issue for him either.
Lastly, Hassan brings excellent value to passing situations as a blocking running back, as he is exceptional at picking up blitzes and stunts. He is also capable as a pass-catcher, as he has good hands, and knows how to find openings in the defense to get open.
