Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from pertinent win over Indiana
By Nick Popio
Michigan basketball was the aggressor from the word go Sunday against Indiana and never faltered in a signature win that the Wolverines have been searching for since November.
The maize and blue went down 4-2 with roughly 17 minutes to go in the first half and didn’t trail on the afternoon again Sunday against Indiana.
The Wolverines shot the lights out against a foe that was only allowing 63 points per game. It thoroughly disposed (80-62) of a team that was coming off the emotional high of beating a top-five team and arch-rival Purdue squad on Thursday night in Bloomington.
Here are the three takeaways from Michigan basketball’s win over Indiana.
1. The 3-point shooting was clutch
Michigan basketball netted 11 triples and shot a sultry 65% from deep in the win. The 11 long-distance bombs were the second most that the Wolverines have hit coming into the contest. They drilled 15 in the easy victory in Lincoln in early December but Michigan’s shooters are currently warming up in the nick of time.
Caleb Houstan nailed a team-high five of them, in route to a 19 point outing. Hunter Dickinson continues to impress with the things that he is capable of doing when he is on the court. He connected three times from beyond the arc, which tied his output from the San Diego State victory on the same day the football team beat Iowa to capture the Big Ten championship.
Terrance Williams added two more treys to throw in 10 points off the bench. He was a difference-maker in his brief stint on the hardwood, especially in the first half.
Brandon Johns returned to action and also joined in on the fun by burying a three of his own. Indiana had no way of stopping a decisive Michigan club that has been overdue for a performance like this for quite some time now.
