Guards

DeVante Jones: A-

I’ve been pretty hard on DeVante Jones during his tenure with Michigan basketball but he’s really started to come on as of late.

Jones wasn’t perfect against the Hoosiers. He made some offensive fouls and was credited with three turnovers but had seven points and seven assists. He was 3-of-7 from the field and went 0-for-1 from beyond the arc but he seemed in control and had a solid defensive rating too (0.95 points per possession).

The Wolverines have found a way to play through Dickinson and while it took Jones some time, he’s starting to find his role with his team. Maybe he’s a good Big Ten point guard after all.

Eli Brooks: B

Eli Brooks didn’t score a bunch of points but as Juwan Howard said after the game, his impact doesn’t always show up in the box score. He was 1-of-4 with two points and had four turnovers. But his defense was outstanding and you can always count on the professor.

Michigan definitely needs Brooks to start knocking down more shots from the perimeter but I wouldn’t worry. He’ll come around.

Frankie Collins: C

Playing point guard is tough in the Big Ten. Frankie Collins is still learning but he’s going to be in a position to start next season so this experience is valuable.

Collins scored two points and also had two assists. However, he did have three turnovers and while he’s explosive enough to create his own shot, he’ll need to cut back on the mistakes.

Kobe Bufkin: C-

Bufkin played 10 minutes and got up two shots but didn’t score. It wasn’t his best performance but he’s starting to look more comfortable and like Collins, I Juwan keeps giving him minutes.
