Can the Wolverines continue their success?

Michigan football will likely head into the 2022 season ranked in the top-10 with the expectation of 11 or more wins. If the Wolverines fail, the media and public will write them off as “lucky” in 2021.

Few programs have won as many games as Michigan over the last seven seasons even though the Wolverines had not met the expectations they had set for themselves until last season.

If Jim Harbaugh stays at Michigan he will need to replicate this success. The fans and team have gotten a taste of winning football at Michigan, and it will now be an expectation moving forward.

Like all great programs and coaches, Michigan will face attrition next season. If the coaching staff can develop and recruit players who will step up and fill the shoes of the Michigan greats who are on their way out, Michigan will once again return to the top of college football. If they cannot, they will fall from grace once again with the fans and media.

Michigan’s offense needs to sustain its previous success, and its defense needs to find a new identity early in the season. If the Wolverines can do these two things, they may be in a great position to return to the playoff in 2022; however, if they cannot, it may be a long season for Michigan fans.
