Jim Harbaugh still busy on recruiting trail for Michigan Football
Despite all the rumors and a contract extension that isn’t signed, Jim Harbaugh is working hard on the recruiting trail for Michigan football, and here’s the latest.
There’s never a dull moment when Jim Harbaugh is your head football coach and that’s proven to be true for Michigan football over the past few weeks.
Regardless of all the coaching rumors, Harbaugh has still been out on the recruiting trail for Michigan football and continuing to work as if nothing is happening.
That’s not a big surprise. That’s Jim Harbaugh. He means it when he talks about attacking each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. That’s genuine and you could see it this week.
When Harbaugh was in Florida, he and the recruits were in a high school weight room, when Harbaugh decided it was a good time to do some squats. Jim, who it should be noted, said he is back to his old playing weight, ripped off about 20 squat reps.
One assistant coach even told the Tampa Bay Times he jokingly said to Harbaugh, after his 15th rep, that Ryan Did had completed 16 reps on his visit to the school days prior — so naturally — Harbaugh did five more.
That’s Jim Harbaugh and while this waiting game is driving some of us crazy, he walks to the beat of his own drum and I’ve said, he doesn’t owe Michigan anything.
Harbaugh has every right to listen if the Raiders or another NFL franchise want to talk to him about being a head coach. We all know if we were offered more money for another employment opportunity, we would all at least listen, right?
Is Harbaugh recruiting a good sign for Michigan football?
Yes, there was a report that Harbaugh would take the Raiders job if offered. But it doesn’t seem like a sure thing that it will get offered and after there seemed to be some momentum in that direction, it seems folks are more confident in Harbaugh returning to U-M.
With the dead period lifted, Harbaugh and his staff have been all over the country. Along with Mike Elston, the Wolverines are hitting the defensive line position hard and visited Keon Keeley, a five-star Notre Dame football commitment.
Then, Luke Montgomery, a top offensive/defensive line target for the Wolverines in 2023, was another guy that got a visit. In fact, Harbaugh and some assistant coaches took in a high school basketball game of his Friday night.
And Michigan football recruiting reporter for The Wolverine, EJ Holland also had an interesting note on the message boards (subscription required) that recruits were indicating to him they think Harbaugh will return.
Take it all with a grain of salt until the contract is signed. But I feel better about Jim Harbaugh returning to Michigan football now than I did a couple of days ago.
