4* DT Sydir Mitchell (NJ)

Having some big bodies in the middle of the defensive line is always needed to slow down opposing rushing attacks.

And that is exactly what Mitchell brings, with On3 reporting his height and weight at 6’5, 345 lbs. and a consensus four-star prospect.

Given how much the Ravens defensive scheme that Michigan has imported relies on having powerful, disruptive players inside, Mitchell is certainly one of the more important recruits Michigan football will be after this cycle.

With a similarly monstrous defensive tackle in Kenneth Grant signing with Michigan in the 2022 cycle, the Wolverines will really have the ability to reshape their defensive line room with some massive athletes, a major turnaround from the scheme of Don Brown, which prioritized smaller, quicker lineman to shoot gaps.

The Wolverines recently hosted Mitchell on a visit, and likely will have to fend off teams like Ohio State and Penn State to reel him in.
