Michigan football experienced a breakthrough season in 2021 but now needs to take advantage of its Big Ten championship on the recruiting trail in order to establish itself as a more consistent contender.

Michigan football has already gotten themselves off to a strong start on the 2023 recruiting trail after closing quite well in 2022.

In the class of 2023, the Wolverines rank fourth nationally according to On3’s team rankings, with high-profile commitments from four-star prospects like linebacker Raylen Wilson (FL) and tight end Andrew Rappleyea (MA), along with in-state prospects like wide receiver Semaj Morgan and kicker Adam Samaha.

These four represent a strong start to the Wolverines’ recruiting efforts, but Michigan football will certainly be hunting for more. These 10 names are recruits who the Wolverines really need to focus on, as they can move the needle for Michigan:

5* QB Dante Moore (MI)

Every program always wants to land the top prospect in their own state, and that could not be more true this cycle, as the top player in Michigan is a prodigiously talented quarterback out of Martin Luther King High School in Dante Moore.

Fellow GBMWolverine writer Sean O’Donnell wrote about him for the site the other day, and it remains very easy to see why Moore is such a hot commodity for Michigan football. In fact, Moore is so high on Michigan’s recruiting board that he is apparently the only quarterback in the 2023 class they are seriously pursuing.

With five-star QB J.J. McCarthy already in town, plenty of Michigan fans would ideally love to land Moore and build a bit of a natural succession plan, going from Cade McNamara to J.J. McCarthy to Dante Moore, then potentially to C.J. Carr after that.

Moore is about as must get as someone can be for the Wolverines in 2023.
